We have provided full studio and technical support for all 19 series of Remarkable Television’s BBC One quiz show, Pointless, with series 20 and 21 in production across 2018

Across October and November 2017, the production recorded series 19 in our 8,000 sq ft Studio TC3 at our recently reopened facilities at Television Centre, with series 20 and 21 recording in our 7,550 sq ft Stage 8 at Elstree between January and May 2018. This three series residency totals 195 daytime episodes and also includes the facilitation of 31 episodes of Pointless Celebrities.

We have facilitated Pointless since its very first series and in April 2016 the production reached its landmark 1000th episode, and by the time series 21 has wrapped in May, this number will have reached 1353.

Pointless records using an eight camera set-up, comprising a 15ft jib and seven pedestal cameras. Our sound and lighting galleries play a pivotal role in helping build the onset tension at key points in the show’s rounds, such as casting the spotlight on the countdown column to reveal when the contestants find a coveted ‘pointless’ answer.

During their residencies with us the Pointless production team adapt the ancillary facilities, which comprise production offices, green rooms and dressing rooms, to suit the show’s bespoke needs. The ‘questions room’, where the question setters and verifiers come together, is housed in a highly secretive dressing room.

The hosts of Pointless Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman on set in Elstree

First airing in 2009, Pointless is a ratings success in its teatime weekday BBC One slot and celebrity special weekend shows. Hosted by Alexander Armstrong, and his ‘Pointless friend’, Richard Osman, the quiz show sees four couples battle it out by answering general knowledge questions with the aim of finding the most obscure answers to score low and win big.
